| (MySportsbook) - The Detroit Tigers try to avoid falling further behind in the AL Central this evening when they begin a four-game set with the Oakland Athletics at Comerica Park. Detroit dropped the final two games of its three-game set with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, falling 8-1 in Thursday's rubber match. Omar Infante was 1-for-2 with an RBI single for the Tigers, who have lost seven of nine games and are now 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central and a half game off Seattle's pace for the wild card. Jeremy Bonderman (10-5) allowed seven runs on 10 hits in six-plus innings to drop his fourth consecutive start. Getting the call for the Tigers tonight will be right-hander Jordan Tata, who is 1-1 with a 3.75 earned run average. After defeating the A's for his first major league win back on July 31, Tata was tagged with the loss on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, as he surrendered three runs and five hits in five innings. Oakland will counter with right-hander Joe Blanton, who is coming off a superb effort in his last start on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Blanton surrendered a run on eight hits in seven innings of that one, as he improved to 9-8, while lowering his ERA to 3.71. Blanton was tagged with the loss the last time he faced Detroit and is 2-2 lifetime against the Tigers with a 7.83 ERA in four starts. Oakland enters this series having won two of three from the Texas Rangers, including a 6-3 win in Wednesday's rubber match in Arlington. Unheralded catcher Rob Bowen belted a pair of homers to help the A's win for the sixth time in their last nine tries. Lenny DiNardo (6-6) got the start and allowed three runs through six innings. Oakland won two of three earlier in the year from the Tigers after dropping five of nine last season. The A's, though, hold a slight 5-4 advantage in their last nine trips to Detroit. This is Oakland's first visit to Detroit since being swept by the Tigers in last year's ALCS. |
