Rookie QB leads Bucs to first victory Headlines 11/08/2009

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saluted their past, then rookie Josh Freeman gave the struggling franchise hope for the future.

Freeman passed for 205 yards and three touchdowns Sunday, including a 7-yard throw to Sammie Stroughter on fourth-and-4, leading the previously winless Bucs to a 38-28 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

In his first pro start, the 17th pick in the draft out of Kansas State completed 14 of 31 passes with just one interception. A critical second pick was wiped out by a Gre

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon is the first inductee into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium.

The 1979 NFL Defensive Player of the Year was saluted Sunday during halftime of the game against the Green Bay Packers.

Selmon was the top pick in the 1976 draft, the first-ever selection by the Bucs, who lost every game in their inaugural season. Three years later, he helped lead the team to the NFC championship game.

Bucs' Bryant out with ailing knee NFL Football 11/08/2009
Tampa, FL (MySportsbook) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Bryant is inactive for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers due to his troublesome knee. Bryant has been suffering from a knee injury since the preseason that also cost him a Week 2 loss to Buffalo. He sat out practice on Friday and was listed as questionable coming in. The eighth-year pro has 16 receptions for 229 yards and two touchdowns in six games this season. Last year, Bryant set career highs across the board with 83 receptions,

The Patriots, meanwhile, return from a brief tour of the NFL's laughingstock department, which resulted in a 59-0 shelling of the then-winless Tennessee Titans - in which Tom Brady threw for six touchdowns - and a 35-7 rout of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before a packed house at London's Wembley Stadium. In those two, New England outgained its foes, 1,033-426, registered 50 first downs to 19 against, and saw Brady complete 52-of-66 passes for 688 yards and nine touchdowns. "When we go out and execut

robably be in a better situation. Poor play from the offensive line has been burying the Packers, who can take a fresh breath of air now that Brett Favre is in the rear-view mirror. Green Bay can exhale this week with a road test against the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, and is trying to erase the memories of last week's tough 38-26 loss to the NFC North-rival Minnesota Vikings in Favre's return to Lambeau Field. Where the Saints are is three games up on the second-place Falcons. Monday's game was just New Orleans' first this year against its division, with game No. 2 coming this Sunday at home versus 3-4 Carolina. BUCCANEERS: With nothing left to lose, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will finally give 2009 first-round draft choice Josh Freeman his first career start this weekend versus the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Raheem Morris made the announcement last Wednesday and the move came as no surprise, since the Buccaneers were
Bucs sign K Barth, release Andrus NFL Football 11/03/2009
Tampa, FL (MySportsbook) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a change at the place kicking position on Tuesday, releasing Shane Andrus and signing Connor Barth. Barth, who was let go by Miami in late August, broke into the NFL with Kansas City in 2008 and made 10-of-12 field goals and all 24 point-after-attempts that year. He was then released on July 28, 2009. Andrus appeared in three games for the Bucs this season and missed on his only field-goal attempt. He was successful on all six PATs.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed kicker Connor Barth and released kicker Shane Andrus.

The Bucs also announced Tuesday that they signed cornerback Mike Mickens from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. To make room on the roster, cornerback Marcus McCauley was released.

With the victory as well as a St. Louis win earlier Sunday, the idle Tampa Bay Buccaneers remain the lone winless team in the NFL. "It's a beautiful thing, and it speaks volumes to finally put it all together in all three phases," said a relieved Titans head coach Jeff Fisher. "Vince Young is a winner. Winless Bucs turn to rookie QB for help NFL Football 10/29/2009

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Minutes after the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers dispersed for a four-day, bye-week break, rookie coach Raheem Morris was asked how his players were holding up under the strain of an 0-7 start.

``We actually talked about it this morning. ... Going 0-7 didn't start yesterday. It didn't start at the beginning of the season when we played Dallas. It started in weight training. It started in OTA days. It started in training camp,'' Morris said.

``Everything we've done to this point is who we are.
