ic of the type of team we have." Seattle will get a chance against the 1-10 Panthers, who are tying to avoid losing six straight for the first time since the 2004 season. Carolina began the year with five straight setbacks before a home win over the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 24. However, the Panthers matched that skid with a heart- breaking 24-23 loss in Cleveland last Sunday. 49ers head to Green Bay vying to continue recent surge NFL Football 12/03/2010
(MySportsbook) - The last time the San Francisco 49ers departed Lambeau Field victoriously, Joe Montana was still chucking touchdown passes to Jerry Rice and head coach George Seifert was calling the shots in 1990. Mike Singletary had already established himself as an elite middle linebacker by that time with the Chicago Bears and 20 years later, he's the head coach of one of the most storied franchises in NFL history. Singletary and the 49ers are set to take on the Green Bay Packers this Sunday in Wisconsin wi
Spikes still hoping for chance at playoffs NFL Football 12/02/2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -Takeo Spikes has never been to the NFL playoffs and he thought this finally would be the year with the San Francisco 49ers.

But now the 49ers, preseason favorites to win the NFC West, are on the verge of missing the postseason again as they head into Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

For the 49ers, it would be an eighth consecutive season without reaching the playoffs. But for Spikes, a two-time Pro Bowler, it would be a 13th consecutive year without playoffs.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -The Green Bay Packers are 7-4. The San Francisco 49ers are 4-7.

Remarkably, their playoff positions aren't so different.

The Packers are looking up at the Chicago Bears in the NFC North after losing at Atlanta last Sunday and would put their postseason hopes in jeopardy with an unexpected slip-up in the final month of the season. The 49ers also have plenty to play for in the eminently winnable NFC West, where St. Louis and Seattle share the division lead at 5-6.

ay." Bowlen said a recent videotaping controversy in which both McDaniels and the team were fined $50,000 would have no bearing on the coach's job status. A former team employee, video coordinator Steve Scarnecchia, reportedly taped a portion of the San Francisco 49ers practice while the teams were sharing Wembley Stadium in preparation for an October game in London. McDaniels said he refused to watch the tape, but was fined for not reporting the violation of the league's "integrity of the game" rule. Scarnecchia
49ers' Gore placed on injured reserve NFL Football 11/30/2010
Santa Clara, CA (MySportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers placed running back Frank Gore on injured reserve Tuesday, amongst a flurry of moves. Gore suffered a fractured right hip during Monday night's 27-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Before the season-ending setback, he racked up 52 yards on five carries. For the season, the Miami-Florida product compiled 853 yards and three touchdowns on 203 carries, adding 452 yards and two TDs on 46 receptions. The sixth-year pro will see his streak of 1,000-yard sea
49ers must prepare to move forward without RB Gore NFL Football 11/30/2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -Mike Singletary isn't ready to rule out Frank Gore for the rest of the season, though the San Francisco 49ers must prepare for that likely scenario with their star running back.

Gore fractured his right hip during the Niners' 27-6 win at Arizona on Monday night and was scheduled to undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury. It's a big blow for San Francisco, which at 4-7 is only a game out in the NFC West despite an 0-5 start.

NFC West: Westbrook keeps 49ers' ground game going NFL Football 11/30/2010
(MySportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers continued their run towards an unlikely playoff berth with Monday night's victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Star back Frank Gore, though, likely won't be doing any more running this season. In winning for the fourth time in six games since an 0-5 start, the Niners pulled within a game of NFC West co-leaders St. Louis and Seattle with contests remaining against both clubs this season. However, they lost Gore along the way to a fractured right hip that would most likely
Arizona QB Anderson lets loose in postgame tirade Headlines 11/29/2010

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Arizona Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson has shouted curses in a postgame tirade after he was repeatedly asked about smiling during the closing minutes of a blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

TV cameras showed Anderson and guard Deuce Lutui smiling late in Arizona's 27-6 loss Monday night, the Cardinals' sixth defeat in a row.

When initially asked about the exchange, Anderson quietly said Lutui had said something to keep them positive.

Gore hurts hip against Cardinals NFL Football 11/29/2010

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore is out with a hip injury against the Arizona Cardinals.

Gore had runs of 25 and 15 yards on San Francisco's opening drive, but went out later in the drive. He returned for two plays to start the next drive, but spent the rest of the first half on the sideline without his helmet.

The 49ers said Gore wouldn't return for the second half. He had 52 yards on five carries before getting hurt.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights re
