Lions, 49ers to tangle in clash of rising teams NFL Football 10/14/2011
(MySportsbook) - Based on the early returns of this 2011 campaign, the rejuvenated San Francisco 49ers appear poised to end a string of eight consecutive seasons of not making the playoffs. It's been almost a lifetime, however, since the Detroit Lions got this deep into a year with an undefeated record. In one of the unexpected marquee matchups of the Week 6 schedule, the two teams will attempt to continue their restoration to relevance when they lock horns Sunday at Ford Field as current division leaders. 49ers place WR Morgan on IR NFL Football 10/12/2011
Santa Clara, CA (MySportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers have placed wide receiver Josh Morgan on the injured reserve list, ending his season. Morgan broke a bone in his lower right leg during this past Sunday's 48-3 win over Tampa Bay. Late in the fourth quarter, he was dragged down awkwardly at the end of a play and had to be carried off the field. He was unable to put any pressure on the leg, and was carted into the locker room. Morgan, 26, is in his fourth NFL season, all with the 49ers. He has 15 catches f
Week 6: Time for NFL to "flex" its TV muscle NFL Football 10/12/2011
out 25 percent of the United States will be able to witness it within the comfort of their homes. Now, one can't blame the NFL for lacking the foresight to realize Sunday's unexpected blockbuster showdown between the undefeated Detroit Lions and 4-1 San Francisco 49ers would be the marquee game of the Week 6 slate -- it's a scenario that truthfully nobody could have envisioned a month or two ago. And it's understandable why that contest is receiving second billing behind the star-studded Dallas-New England clash o
Peterson, Willis, Crosby earn NFC weekly awards NFL Football 10/12/2011
New York, NY (MySportsbook) - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis, and Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby have been named the NFC's top players for Week 5 of the NFL season. Peterson earned the offensive award after rushing for 122 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings' 34-10 victory against Arizona. All three of his scores came in the first quarter, making him just the fifth player since the 1970 merger to accomplish the feat. The defensive award
Cougars seek upset of seventh-ranked Cardinal Division I College Football 10/12/2011
's longest winning streak to 14 games when it takes on the Washington State Cougars in Pac-12 Conference action this weekend. Many wondered how the Cardinal would perform without former head coach Jim Harbaugh, who left after last season to lead the San Francisco 49ers. So far, so good for David Shaw, the new head coach of the program, as his team has won its first five games of this campaign by no fewer than 26 points. Stanford's 13 straight victories have tied a school record, so a win in this one would establis

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - The agency representing wide receiver Brett Swain says he has agreed to a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Rep 1 Sports tweeted the news Tuesday, when San Francisco worked out potential replacements for the injured Joshua Morgan.

Lions hungry for more after 1st 5-0 start since 56 NFL Football 10/11/2011
) - The Detroit Lions have started 5-0 for the first time since 1956, the year before their last NFL title.

Detroit coach Jim Schwartz refuses to be satisfied. He says the Lions need to improve by Sunday's game at home to beat the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers.

Detroit beat the Bears 24-13 in its first Monday night game in a decade despite 12 penalties that cost them 94 yards and gave Chicago four first downs.

Matthew Stafford missed some throws, the Detroit defense didn't slow down Matt Forte and the

Santa Clara, CA (MySportsbook) - San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan has a broken bone in his lower right leg that will keep him off the field "for an extended time," head coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday.
