SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Alex Smith is the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback yet again. Coach Mike Singletary made the announcement on his regular KNBR radio show Tuesday morning and the team later tweeted a reference to it. The move comes a day after Singletary said he was contemplating the switch from Troy Smith back to the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick following a 34-16 loss at Green Bay on Sunday. The 49ers (4-8) face a must-win game at home Sunday against NFC West rival Seattle. Alex Smith di |

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -The Green Bay Packers expect to begin their final push for the playoffs without standout defensive end Cullen Jenkins. McCarthy said the injury isn't as bad as the team's medical staff originally feared, but he still may be out a couple of weeks. Jenkins has three sacks in the Packers' last two games. The |

Matthews was a limited participant in all three days of practice this week as the Packers (7-4) get ready for the San Francisco 49ers (4-7) on Sunday. | Santa Clara, CA (MySportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers and kicker Jeff Reed have agreed on a one-year contract. Reed was released by the Steelers earlier this season after joining the team in 2002 and replaces Shane Andrus, who made only 2-of-4 field goal attempts in his two weeks with San Francisco. 49ers starting kicker Joe Nedney didn't play against the Cardinals last week because he didn't feel 100 percent in a pre-game warmup.
