| Santa Clara, CA (MySportsbook) - San Francisco 49ers middle linebacker Derek Smith received a $25,000 fine from the NFL for knocking down an official last month in a game against the Saints. The ruling arrived in a letter last week. Smith said he was surprised, and did not remember the play. However, the NFL said Smith deliberately knocked down umpire Steve Wilson during San Francisco's loss in New Orleans on October 20. Smith leads the 49ers with 55 tackles -- 38 solo -- in nine games this season. |
