SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -LeGarrette Blount nearly joined the San Francisco 49ers before changing his mind, calling coach Mike Singletary directly to tell him he was instead headed to Tennessee. The reason: a crowded depth chart at running back behind Frank Gore. ``Jeff Fisher was a better salesman than I was,'' Singletary joked of the Titans coach. Turns out, Blount is wracking up yards for the Niners' next opponent as a running rookie for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who come to Candlestick Park on Sunday hoping |

| (MySportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the league's biggest disappointments this season. However, they'll be going for a third straight win and will try to stay in the playoff hunt when they face a surprising Tampa Bay Buccaneers team Sunday at Candlestick Park. A preseason darling, the 49ers stumbled out of the gates, losing their first five games for the first time in franchise history. However, wins in three of their last four contests has San Francisco just two games back in the underwhel |

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -The San Francisco 49ers have brought back kicker Shane Andrus to fill in again. The 49ers signed Andrus to a one-year deal Wednesday to replace injured starter Joe Nedney at least for this Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Andrus, one of three kickers to try out Wednesday, was with the Niners in training camp this year before being cut. He played in one game for San Francisco in 2009, when he also spent time with the Buccaneers and Indianapolis. Nedney underwent an MRI exam earlier |

This all happened just before Baltimore's third preseason game in 2008, and the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner wasn't medically cleared to resume light workouts again until mid-September. Now, across the country with his new team - the San Francisco 49ers - Smith stands on a podium after a walkthrough practice as a confident NFL starter, having moved up the depth chart from third string in a matter of two months. He jumped over a pair of former No. 1-overall draft picks in the process.Copyright © |

Seattle took a step in that direction as its victory on Sunday coupled with the St. Louis Rams' defeat to the San Francisco 49ers moved the 5-4 Seahawks one game up on the Rams for first place in the division. Arizona fell to 3-6. Hasselbeck, who missed last week's 41-7 home loss to the Giants with a concussion, threw for 273 yards in the first half and finished with a season- |
