Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was taken to a hospital for X-rays and a CT scan after injuring his ribs on a hard hit late in the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The X-rays were negative while the CT scan was inconclusive, said Seattle coach Jim Mora, and Hasselbeck rejoined his teammates for the 2-hour flight home shortly after the 23-10 loss to the 49ers. ``It is a rib bruise at this point,'' Mora said. ``He's doing much better. ... | (MySportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks both raised expectations with impressive wins in Week 1. One Sunday later, as the two NFC West rivals prepare to face off at Candlestick Park, a win will vault those high hopes into the stratosphere. The homestanding 49ers were one of the big surprises of the opening week, going to Arizona and defeating the defending NFC champion Cardinals, 20-16. The victory extended the run of success enjoyed when the team went 5-4 under Mike Singletary last season |

| ope to make a case that such a jinx is nothing but a silly superstition. Beginning with the 2000-01 New York Giants, seven of the past eight Super Bowl runners-up have missed the playoffs the following year, and the Cardinals' 20-16 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday has put Ken Whisenhunt's club in immediate jeopardy to continue the trend. Complicating matters for the Cardinals is that their effort to avoid an 0-2 start - and all the heightened curse-related talk that will undoubtedly come with it - |

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -Shawntae Spencer was as surprised as anybody when he opened the regular season as the starting right cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers. But there was nothing surprising about the way he played during the 20-16 win against the Arizona Cardinals in Spencer's first start since 2007. Spencer held up strong against the receiver tandem of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin and helped contain an Arizona passing attack that ranked second in the NFL last season. | (MySportsbook) - Mike Singletary's nine-game run as the San Francisco 49ers' head coach to end the 2008 season is probably best remembered for the Hall of Fame linebacker's colorful postgame press conferences and an infamous incident in which he dropped his pants in the locker room while chewing out his troops at halftime of one contest. His hand-picked quarterback, Shaun Hill, has endured a nomadic career that will never be confused with that of former legends Joe Montana or Steve Young, or even Jeff Garcia. B |
