Kings' Court: There's no place like home NBA Basketball 02/14/2003
(MySportsbook) - The Portland Trail Blazers were threatening to overthrow the Sacramento Kings as leaders of the Pacific Division at the All-Star break. Portland trailed by just one-half game at the stoppage, but the Blazers have gone 0-2 since to fall two games in back of the Kings. The Kings have won two of their last three games after dropping five of their previous six. Sacramento began a season-long, seven-game homestand with a 99-80 victory over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. The win improved the K
Wizards travel to LA NBA Basketball 02/12/2003
Los Angeles, CA (MySportsbook) - The Washington Wizards continue their three-game road trip when they travel to Staples Center to take on the Los Angeles Clippers. Washington is coming off a 99-80 loss to the Sacramento Kings. Larry Hughes led the Wizards with 19 points. Michael Jordan scored 12 points on just 5-of-19 shooting from the floor. The Wizards shot a brutal 29.9 percent from the floor as a team. "We played like we had a week off," Washington coach Doug Collins said. "The disappointing thing for me

at. Teams we haven't beat, we want to beat them, too. Just try to keep moving on, get this thing over and done with." The Wizards enter the second half of the season as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and have a Tuesday night date with the Sacramento Kings. With just a one-game cushion over the Orlando Magic, Washington can not afford a meltdown. Last year, the Wizards capped a five-game winning streak with a 108-101 victory over the Kings entering the All-Star break. It moved Washington to 26-21 and

st record in the NBA as the second half of the season starts Tuesday night in Minnesota. They have the best record in the history of the franchise at All-Star weekend. The Mavs are on schedule to win more than 60 games; yet last season's loss to the Sacramento Kings in the postseason still allows for lingering speculation. Dallas has won seven of its last nine games but is coming off a 110-109 loss to the Kings. Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley scored 28 points apiece in the losing effort. Nowitzki also grabbed
Word around the Hive: Time to get to work NBA Basketball 02/11/2003
(MySportsbook) - If the New Orleans Hornets want to make their first season in a new town successful, the time is now to make their postseason push. New Orleans entered All-Star weekend having won back-to-back contests over the Boston Celtics and Sacramento Kings. As it stands now, the Hornets would be the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. In the East, the level of competition allows ordinary teams to dream of extraordinary accomplishments. New Orleans is an above average team in the lesser conference of the NBA, and its schedule gives it a chance to at least snag the fourth seed and a home series in the playoffs. The Hornets have no long road trips on the schedule. Starting February 28 at Denver, New Orleans has only two more road games against Western Conference foes. The Hornets face the Suns at America West Arena on March 1 and the Clippers at Staples Center on March 3. Most of the Hornets make-or-break matchups are against their Eastern Conference rivals. On Tuesday, the Hornets face the Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena. This is the type of team the Hornets need to beat handily if they're going to improve their playoff positioning. If history is any indication, this shouldn't be a problem. The Hornets have won four straight over the Heat, including all three games against Miami last season and a 100-95 home victory in the first meeting between the teams on November 6. The franchise has won its last four games at Miami dating back to the Hornets' time in Charlotte. A huge test awaits the Hornets on Wednesday night, when the Indiana Pacers invade the new Hive. Indiana, which is tied with New Jersey for the best record in the Eastern Conference, has already beaten New Orleans twice this season. The way things seem to be shaping up, it seems like the Hornets are going to be in a race with the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Wizards and Orlando Magic for the final four playoff berths. "We have a favorable schedule ahead and we just have to maintain for the next 10 to 12 games, then I think we can make a run at a good seed," coach Paul Silas said. CAMPBELL MMM..MMM...GONE? With the NBA trading deadline just over a week away, rumors about Elden Campbell continue to swirl. Campbell was a strong pivot last season, but he's been limited by injuries thus far this year. "That's old news. Until it happens, it's only a rumor," Campbell told the New Orleans Time Picayune. "But I'm going to deal with whatever happens." Most of the market for Campbell resides in the Eastern Conference. The question for Hornet brass is whether or not it wants him to come back and haunt the team down the line.
MJ, Wizards turn attention to playoff push NBA Basketball 02/11/2003
Sacramento, CA (MySportsbook) - Coming off a memorable final All-Star Game, Michael Jordan now turns his attention to one last playoff push as his Washington Wizards begin the second half with a matchup against the Sacramento Kings Tuesday. Jordan got the start Sunday in the mid-season affair after Vince Carter stepped aside during the introductions. Jordan went on to score 20 points on just 9-of-27 shooting, and hit what should've been the game-winning shot at the end of the first overtime until a referee f

neapolis, MN (MySportsbook) - The Minnesota Timberwolves try for their third straight win when they welcome the Dallas Mavericks to Target Center on Tuesday night. Dallas has won seven of its last nine games but is coming off a 110-109 loss to the Sacramento Kings. Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley scored 28 points apiece in the losing effort. Nowitzki also grabbed 16 rebounds. Steve Nash added 17 points to the losing effort. Sacramento's Keon Clark slammed home a missed trey with 10.5 seconds remaining to sea

leans Hornets try for their third straight win when they travel to Miami to take on the Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena. New Orleans currently finds itself the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Hornets are coming off a 108-84 victory over the Sacramento Kings. Jamal Mashburn led the way with 26 points and David Wesley chipped in with 17 points and nine assists. PJ Brown added 14 points and 10 rebounds to the victory. The Hornets capitalized on a sloppy game during which each team turned the ball over 17

lay. But perhaps the biggest shocker for the Jazz this season is that the team is 29-20 and holding the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings. Last season, Utah finished 44-38 to claim the final playoff seed in the West before losing to the Sacramento Kings in the first round. Things didn't stand to get much better this season, as the team's main acquisitions were Harpring, Calbert Cheaney and Mark Jackson. However, head coach Jerry Sloan has turned in one of his best coaching jobs ever and the Jazz ha

player, the Portland Trail Blazers are currently the hottest team in the NBA, making Maurice Cheeks a prime candidate for Coach of the Year. The squad has won its last four games and nine of its past 10 to suddenly be breathing down the necks of the Sacramento Kings in the Pacific Division. The Blazers stumbled out of the gate with a 10-11 record, but have posted a 22-5 mark since. The surge has pulled Portland to within just one-half game of first-place Sacramento entering the All-Star break, with the Blazers
