| (MySportsbook) - Ever so quietly, the Rockets are making noise out West. Houston has won its last four games to tie its longest winning streak of the season and the team is back in the playoff mix. The Rockets are currently in a deadlock with the Phoenix Suns for the eighth and final postseason spot in the West. Prior to the winning streak, Houston had dropped 15 of its previous 22 games, including the last four, and seemed destined for the lottery. But the schedule has been kind to the Rockets, who have defeated Toronto, New Jersey, the LA Clippers and Chicago during their successful stretch. Most recently, the Rockets cruised to a 121-91 victory over the Bulls on Friday. Houston shot a scorching 58 percent from the field, including 10-of-17 from three-point range, and led by as much as 33 in the contest. James Posey scored his most points since joining Houston, collecting a game- high 26 on 9-of-12 shooting. He also totaled eight assists and five steals. "I just try to get out there, go on the floor and try to take my shots when I get open," said Posey. "It's different than from where I came from (Denver), but we've got great players here that are young and full of energy." Posey scored 12 of the Rockets' first 15 points in the contest and helped Houston build an early 16-3 lead. Houston continued to dominate and stretched the margin to 20 at 25-5 with 4:09 to play in the first. "He came out and set the tone," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said of Posey. "He knocked the ball loose, made some shots and got the running game going. And he has been great with his adjustment to his new team. A real intense guy who was great on defense tonight." Houston shot a blazing 67 percent (14-of-21) from the field in the first quarter and held a 33-11 lead after 12 minutes of action. The Rockets held the Bulls to only 33 points in the first half and Chicago was never in the game. The second half was just a mere formality. Steve Francis had a spectacular all-around game, finishing with 23 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and five steals. He made all five of his field goal attempts, including two three-pointers, and sank 11-of-12 free throws. Playoff atmosphere will come early Sunday as the Rockets and Suns tangle in Houston with the winner gaining sole possession of the eighth position in the West. "Important game. Monster," said Tomjanovich of Sunday's tilt. "These are our playoff games and that is how we are approaching them." After hosting Phoenix on Sunday, Houston embarks on a five-game road trip against Western Conference opponents. Overall, the Rockets play nine of their next 12 games on the road. So far this season, Houston is just 11-19 away from the Compaq Center. |
