ad everything going their way last season until Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh in late November and was suspended. Eli Manning and company won two of their final six games, being embarrassed in the NFC semifinal by the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Coincidentally, one of the two wins came 36 hours after the Burress incident. The Giants went on the road and beat Washington 23-7, one of six losses in the final eight games that turned the Redskins from a contender to an also-ran in Jim Zorn's

Eagles work out Jon Runyan NFL Football 09/10/2009

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Former starting right tackle Jon Runyan has worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Runyan never missed a game in nine years with the Eagles, starting 192 straight regular-season contests. He wasn't re-signed after having microfracture surgery on his right knee.

Coach Andy Reid brought Runyan in Thursday to check his fitness level.

Eagles sign TE Alex Smith NFL Football 09/08/2009
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - The Philadelphia Eagles and tight end Alex Smith agreed on a one-year contract Tuesday. Tight end Tony Curtis was released to make room on the 53-man roster. Smith was released by the Patriots during Saturday's mandatory trimming of rosters to 53 players. New England had traded a fifth-round pick in the offseason to the Buccaneers for Smith, but was let go with Ben Watson and ex- Jet Chris Baker already on the Pats' roster. The fifth-year pro was a third-round selection in the
Eagles part ways with QB Feeley; DT Dixon claimed off waivers NFL Football 09/06/2009
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - The Philadelphia Eagles released quarterback A.J. Feeley on Sunday and claimed defensive tackle Antonio Dixon off waivers from the Washington Redskins. Feeley signed a three-year contract extension in 2007 that ran through next season but Philadelphia's recent signing of Michael Vick put the nine-year pro's future with the team in question. The New England Patriots have been rumored to be interested in his services as they have only undrafted rookie Brian Hoyer backing up Tom B

Notables among that group include Cantwell, who was bidding to make the team as a third quarterback; Geisinger, who appeared in four games with the team last season; and Smith, a former member of the active roster with the Miami Dolphins. In another move, the Panthers moved third-round rookie defensive tackle Corvey Irvin to injured reserve with a knee injury suffered in the preseason. The Panthers open the regular season on Sept. 13, when they'll play host to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Eagles cut '08 draft picks Ikegwuonu, Smith, 15 More NFL Football 09/05/2009
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - Cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu and defensive end Bryan Smith, two mid-round 2008 draft choices, were among the 17 players released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, as part of the team's "cut- down day" transactions. Ikegwuonu was considered by some to be a potential first-round draft choice coming out of Wisconsin, but tore his ACL while preparing for the draft in January of 2008 and fell to the fourth round. He spent all of his rookie season on the non-football injury list a
Eagles OL Herremans to undergo foot surgery, out for opener NFL Football 08/27/2009
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Todd Herremans will not be ready for the season opener, as he will undergo foot surgery Friday to repair a stress fracture. The injury was initially diagnosed as a stress reaction, but the doctors identified the injury as a fracture after the swelling in Herremans' foot went down. Head coach Andy Reid said after Thursday's preseason game against Jacksonville that Herremans will miss a couple of regular season games. He did not clarify exact
Vick makes much-anticipated debut with Eagles NFL Football 08/27/2009
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - Michael Vick made his long-awaited debut with the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, appearing in several different roles in the first half of the team's 33-32 win over Jacksonville in preseason action. Entering the game on the first series to an applause from the Philadelphia fans at Lincoln Financial Field, Vick played quarterback, wide receiver and ran the Wildcat formation. Instead, the lasting memory of a season that ended with a swift and bitter 23-11 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round was the sight of troubled wide receiver Plaxico Burress stepping into a Manhattan court room to face weapons charges after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a New York City nightclub in late November. (MySportsbook) - Presumably having learned a harsh lesson from the infamous Terrell Owens era of a few years back, the Philadelphia Eagles have generally managed to avoid the controversy and distractions that have befallen some of their fellow tenants among the NFC's East Division in recent times. The events of the past few months leading up to the 2009 season, however, have provided a clear indication that the team has changed its approach in its long-standing quest to win a Super Bowl championship.
