It isn't as though the five-time Pro Bowler has been out of football since a foot injury shelved him for New England's last nine games in 2004. His 10 interceptions for the New York Jets in 2005 tied for the NFL lead, and he topped the Chiefs last year with four picks. But with every snap of the ball, he had to compensate for the bad foot - make adjustments, alter his approach and summon every ounce of savvy and guile collected ov |

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - David Bowens developed a reputation for bowling people over before coming to the New York Jets. All the sacks and tackles on the football field were one thing, but it was his 221 career average on the lanes that impressed his new teammates. When the son of former professional bowler Frank Williams showed up for a team charity event at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan in June, he felt, well, framed. ``They knew all about it, so they gave me a handicap,'' Bowens said Tuesday with a big grin. |

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -Pete Kendall thinks his contract dispute with the New York Jets will end soon. It's already gone on longer than the offensive lineman imagined. ``This could have been dealt with a thousand ways, all of them positively,'' Kendall said Sunday. Kendall, in his 12th season, is looking for a $1 million raise on his $1.7 million salary, but the Jets won't budge. One of the major reasons is believed to be general manager Mike Tannenbaum's refusal to set precedent by renegotiating a deal |
