| Florham Park, NJ (MySportsbook) - New York Jets center Nick Mangold was held out of practice again Thursday because of a high ankle sprain, but head coach Rex Ryan said there have been signs of improvement. "He seems to be getting better each day," Ryan said. Mangold missed Sunday's 34-24 loss in Oakland, ending his streak of 82 straight games played. Mangold was hurt during the first quarter of a Week 2 win over Jacksonville and did not practice at all last week. Prior to Sunday, he had started every gam |

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - Defense is Rex Ryan's pride and joy, so he was predictably angry when the New York Jets got run over by the Oakland Raiders last Sunday. The performance wasn't up to his lofty standards, and his coaching staff and players agree. The Jets are ranked 31st - second-to-last - against the run, a position in which Ryan says he has never been. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine says the Jets' letdown last weekend was partly because of ``an effort thing'' and said some players were ` |

That's why it's called a column. Lupica's not a reporter when he writes about the New York Jets and calls Rex Ryan a buffoon. Neither am I when I write about Floyd Mayweather Jr. and say he's the best fighter in the world today. We're both tasked with providing a viewpoint seeded in accuracy. And at the end of the day, that's why people read. |

It was his low total since Dec. 20, 2009 against the New York Jets, when he was limited by an injury and had one carry for seven yards. ``It just turns out that way sometimes in a game,'' Turner said. ``Playing from behind, the fastest way to come back is by throwing the football.
