| (MySportsbook) - The San Jose Sharks got a taste of what the Northeast has been going through this past week, as they suffered through their own version of a snow storm Wednesday. The only difference was that the Sharks' storm came in the form of New York Islanders' goaltender Garth Snow, who stopped 29 shots en route to the Isles' 3-0 win at the Tank. "I'm embarrassed," said head coach Ron Wilson. "I might be the most confused person in North America. I'm sick and tired of hearing how great this group is at battling. I haven't seen it." Evgeni Nabokov stopped 30 shots for the Sharks, who dropped their third straight and seventh in eight tries. With 22 games remaining, the defending Pacific Division champions find themselves with 53 points, 12 back of the eighth-place Edmonton Oilers for the Western Conference's final playoff spot. "We're not working hard enough physically and mentally," said Kyle McLaren. "Saying things like the bounces and breaks are not going the Sharks way, that is an excuse. We have to work at it. The sun will come up tomorrow and we have a game in two days." It took Isles' captain Michael Peca just 36 seconds to score his 10th goal of the season and the Islanders never looked back. McLaren had the puck, and while trying to take a slap shot, he broke his stick on the ice near the blue line. Mark Parrish picked up the puck and skated to the right wing where he passed the puck to Peca, who tipped it in from the left crease. "I can't explain it," said McLaren of his new stick breaking. "It didn't feel broken at the time. They didn't win on that play and we didn't lose on that play." At 4:09 of the second, Kenny Jonsson increased the New York edge to 2-0 with his eighth of the season. Jonsson fired a slap shot from just inside the left side of the blue line that beat Nabokov glove-side through traffic. "Obviously I thought it was a bad break early when McLaren's stick broke," said Wilson. "I thought the first went well, but when they made it 2-0, we didn't have any fight left." Peca capped off the scoring at 10:21 of the second when he received a cross- ice pass from Shawn Bates and tipped it in at the top of the crease. UP NEXT The Sharks continue their three-game homestand on Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets before closing the set against the Calgary Flames on Monday. |

The Bruins have fallen into a three-way tie with the New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning. A couple of more losses in a row and it could be an uphill climb down the stretch for Boston to make the postseason. "Of course we're concerned about it," O'Connell said.
