Hurricane, injuries cause uncertainty NFL Football 11/17/2005

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The New Orleans Saints lost their home. The New England Patriots lost key players. And both have won fewer games than expected.

Forced from the damaged Louisiana Superdome by Hurricane Katrina, the Saints played home games in three cities. They're 2-7.

``The whole situation has been hard, not just on us but on the people down in the Gulf Coast,'' Saints coach Jim Haslett said. ``In the long run, it will make us better people for it.''

Smith, Mayberry reconsider free-agent decisions after Katrina NFL Football 11/17/2005

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The New Orleans Saints are already worried about next year as they struggle to get through this Hurricane-disrupted season.

Hurricane Katrina forced the Saints out of New Orleans and onto the road for the whole season. The players are weary with travel and wondering how many free agents will be interested in signing next year after hearing of the hardships.

``At this point, everyone is away from their families,'' offensive lineman Kendyl Jacox said. ``I'm sick and tired of traveling. Nin

work) - Chicago Bears running back Thomas Jones, who missed last week's game with a rib injury, is not listed on this week's injury report and will apparently start this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Jones started Week 9's 20-17 win over the New Orleans Saints despite entering the game with bruised ribs, but was unable to finish. He pulled himself out of the contest in the second quarter, ending with 40 yards on 11 carries. He then sat out Week 10's 17-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers. For the season, J

In some related news, the Patriots agreed to terms with lineman Gene Mruczkowski, who will serve as a backup to Russ Hochstein at center. UP NEXT New England hosts the New Orleans Saints this week. The Patriots have a 7-3 lead in their all-time series, and were a 34-17 home winner when the teams last met, in 2001. Belichick is 2-0 in his career against the Saints, including a win while at the helm of the Cleveland Browns in 1993.
Tagliabue urges patience, compassion for Saints NFL Football 11/15/2005

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue urged league owners to be patient and understanding with the ``unprecedented'' situation facing the hurricane-displaced New Orleans Saints.

``These are very difficult challenges. Everyone needs to be patient,'' Tagliabue said Tuesday at the end of the first day of a two-day meeting of NFL owners.

``There are a lot of complications here and I think everyone is working in good faith to get them resolved.''

Saints cornerback Brown arrested on DWI charge NFL Football 11/11/2005

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - New Orleans Saints cornerback Fakhir Brown was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, the team said Friday.

Brown, who was arrested Wednesday, is the second Saints player to face a DWI charge in San Antonio in two weeks. Linebacker Courtney Watson was charged with drunken driving on Oct. 26.

Saints spokesman Greg Bensel confirmed Brown's arrest and said the team's security department was reviewing the matter. He had no further comment.

Chicago has won four in a row since a 1-3 start, and last Sunday went to Baton Rouge for a 20-17 triumph over the New Orleans Saints. Chicago owns a two-game lead over Detroit and Minnesota in the NFC North as Week 10 begins. The Niners, meanwhile, fell to 2-6 with last Sunday's loss to the Giants. Bye gives Saints a break from losing, but little else NFL Football 11/10/2005

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - If only a five-game losing streak and what looks like yet another season of futility were all the New Orleans Saints and their fans had to worry about.

The displaced, travel-weary Saints finally get a rest this week. Their bye is a break from football, at least, but probably not from distractions including uprooted families, damaged property and Hurricane Katrina's devastation in the community the Saints expected to be part of when training camp opened.

Like many of their fans, players h

Bears' Jones questionable NFL Football 11/09/2005
Lake Forest, IL (MySportsbook) - Chicago Bears running back Thomas Jones is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers because of bruised ribs. Jones started last Sunday's 20-17 win over the New Orleans Saints despite entering the game with the ailment and being listed as probable, but was unable to finish. He pulled himself out of the contest in the second quarter, ending with 40 yards on 11 carries. For the season, Jones has recorded 753 yards and six touchdowns rushing. Both to
Horn needs time away to reflect on worst season with Saints NFL Football 11/09/2005

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Even the usually upbeat and brash Joe Horn can't shake the effects of a New Orleans Saints season marred by the swamping of their home by Hurricane Katrina and now mired in the team's longest losing streak since 1999.

Horn has struggled through a hamstring injury and is on pace for his worst season with the Saints, who enter the bye week on a six-game slide.

``I told my kids last weekend, 'Daddy's got to get away for a couple of days,' `` Horn said, explaining his plans for the week off.
