Belichick sees good fundamental play in opener NFL Football 08/12/2011

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The New England Patriots were fundamentally sound in their highest-scoring exhibition game ever, considering the late start to training camp.

That pleased coach Bill Belichick, although he said Friday there's a lot of work to be done following the team's 47-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night in the preseason opener.

Less than two weeks after their first practice in pads, the Patriots committed just four penalties, didn't allow a touchdown and scored six.

Brady sits, but Pats whip Jags in preseason opener NFL Football 08/12/2011
Foxboro, MA (MySportsbook) - Rookie Stevan Ridley ran for a pair of touchdowns and caught a Ryan Mallett pass for another score, and the New England Patriots began the preseason with a 47-12 triumph over the new-look Jacksonville Jaguars. Five months after a lockout began, it was back to game action, but not for Tom Brady. The Patriots starting quarterback dressed for the game, but instead yielded to Brian Hoyer. The second-string QB completed 15-of-21 passes for 171 yards, including an 11-yard score to Taylor P
Mankins signs long-term deal with Pats NFL Football 08/10/2011
Foxboro, MA (MySportsbook) - New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins has signed a six-year contract with the team that will make him the highest-paid interior offensive lineman, according to a report. The Boston Herald reported Wednesday that Mankins' contract money was structured to ease the salary cap hit on the Patriots. The paper didn't say how much the contract was worth and the team hadn't announced the deal publicly yet. Earlier, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said Mankins would be "signed up soon, hopefull
Patriots owner to continue family's philanthropy NFL Football 08/10/2011

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft says his family will continue the philanthropic legacy of his late wife Myra.

In his first public comments since a news conference at the end of the NFL lockout, Kraft said Wednesday he's creating an emergency fund for people who have one-time needs.

He spoke on the field at Gillette Stadium three weeks after his wife died of cancer at the age of 68. The Patriots open their exhibition season there Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars

Bengals agree to terms with DE Fanene NFL Football 08/09/2011
ati, OH (MySportsbook) - The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with defensive end Jonathan Fanene. The Enquirer reported the move Tuesday evening. Fanene, a 29-year-old out of Utah, was limited to one tackle over two games a year ago thanks to a hamstring injury suffered in last season's opener against the New England Patriots. Since breaking into the league in 2005, the native of American Samoa has racked up 80 tackles, seven sacks and one interception over 54 games with Cincinnati.
Ochocinco says he will live with a fan NFL Football 08/09/2011
Foxborough, MA (MySportsbook) - New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is still adjusting to his new surroundings -- so much so that he hasn't yet found a place to live. But Ochocinco has a plan, at least for the first two or three weeks of the season. He says will stay with a Patriots fan. "They have to have Internet and they have to have Xbox and that's about it," Ochocinco said Tuesday, unsure of how exactly he will go about picking the lucky fan. Trying to get acclimated to the Boston area, Ochoci

He gave fellow receivers Wes Welker and Deion Branch and quarterback Tom Brady credit for his progress.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. The information contained in the AP News report may not be published,
