The San Diego Chargers probably expected to see the New England Patriots somewhere in the AFC playoffs. It will happen next Sunday, when the AFC's best team this season hosts the NFL's best team this decade. The Patriots secured their trip to San Diego on Sunday with a convincing 37-16 victory over their AFC rivals, the New York Jets. Tom Brady guided three long scoring drives and threw two touchdown passes, and Asante Samuel had a 36-yard interception return for a score with 4:54 left. That set up the match |

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots moved ahead in the playoffs this season without two of their best players from last season. Receivers Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell made up for the absence of Deion Branch. And rookie Stephen Gostkowski's perfect day at making field goals put memories of clutch kicker Adam Vinatieri far in the background. Gaffney led the Patriots with eight catches for 104 yards and Gostkowski was 3-for-3 on field goals as New England beat the New York Jets 37-16 on Sunday. |

Caldwell said the board told him he would be a first-day draft selection. He also said his brother, New England Patriots receiver Reche Caldwell, gave him some advice. ``He told me to worry about that after the game, just focus on this game,'' Andre Caldwell said. ``Don't worry about the future, just focus on the task at hand. She predicted the Jets and rookie coach Eric Mangini would beat his former mentor, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots on the road. That would be sweet enough in itself, but would also carry an added bonus. ``There's a lot of Giants fans around here to rub their faces in it,'' she said. Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. | (MySportsbook) - The New England Patriots and New York Jets will renew acquaintances for the third time this season on Sunday afternoon, when the two longtime AFC East combatants face off at Gillette Stadium. Appropriately enough, the loser of the Jets/Patriots rubber match, which also happens to be an AFC Wild Card tilt, is going to get bounced. New England went to the Meadowlands in Week 2, holding off a late Jets rally to win, 24-17. That game marked the first installment in the frosty rivalry between Jets he |

Hobson and the Jets (10-6) hope to cause all kinds of problems for the New England Patriots' quarterback during their first-round playoff game Sunday at Gillette Stadium. ``The main thing is trying to present different looks and not allowing him to feel comfortable,'' Hobson said. ``If we allow him to feel comfortable, it will be a long |

| New York, NY (MySportsbook) - Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison, New England Patriots defensive end Ty Warren and New York Jets kicker Mike Nugent took home Player of the Month honors for December. Harrison saved his best for the final month of the regular season, hauling in 34 receptions for 545 yards and seven touchdowns in five games. He posted at least one TD in four of those five contests, and reached the 100-yard mark three times last month. His best performance came on December 18 versus th |

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -Eric Mangini spent quite a few late nights at the office helping Bill Belichick draw up championship-winning game plans during six years as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots. The rookie head coach is running his own bleary-eyed meetings these days with the New York Jets, but Belichick's influence is clear. ``Anytime that you go into a new position, there are a lot of things that are borrowed,'' Mangini said. ``And I borrowed a lot of information from great people along |

I was on a whole different football team. I was on a New England Patriots team which is different from this team. ``Those are the times and the highs you will never forget as a player.
