FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots have hired Duke University offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien as an offensive assistant coach.

O'Brien, an assistant coach for the last 14 years at the collegiate level, spent the last two seasons at Duke, where he also was quarterbacks coach.

O'Brien, 37, coached running backs at Maryland in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He worked at Georgia Tech between 1995 and 2002, where he held positions including offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and assistant head

His decision to return for 2007 apparently wasn't as difficult, as he needed only a month to announce his plans. A three-time MVP award winner, Favre led the Packers to their first NFL title in 30 years with a 35-21 Super Bowl XXXI victory over the New England Patriots after the 1996 season. The Packers also announced Monday they have reached a four-year contract with defensive end Cullen Jenkins. "We are pleased to reach a long-term agreement with defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins prior to the start of free agency,
Report: Dillon to retire NFL Football 02/23/2007
Boston, MA (MySportsbook) - New England Patriots running back Corey Dillon will ask the team for his release of the final three years of his contract and retire, the Boston Globe reported on Thursday. The 32-year-old Dillon would hang up his spikes at 14th on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 11,241 yards in his ten seasons. Dillon owns the Patriots franchise-record for rushing yards in a season, with a career-high 1,635 in 2004. Dillon established himself as one of the premier backs in the league during his

Calls to Brown's agent, Robert Roche, weren't immediately returned.

While using the franchise tag on kickers is rare, it's the cheapest of all positions. Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri was tagged twice while with the New England Patriots.

Brown was 25 for 31 on field goal attempts during the regular season and won games against St. Louis twice, Detroit and hit a 50-yarder on the final play of a 23-20 win at Denver. Over the past two seasons, Brown has six game-winning kicks.

The Chargers fell apart in their playoff opener, a stunning 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots.

Foxboro, MA (MySportsbook) - The New England Patriots put the franchise tag on cornerback Asante Samuel, which should keep the 26-year-old standout with the organization for at least one more year. A fourth-round pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, the Central Florida product has appeared in 59 regular season and 11 postseason contests for the Patriots. Samuel had a career year in 2006, amassing 10 interceptions, 14 passes defensed and 59 tackles. Samuel would have become an unrestricted free agent if the Patriots hadn'
