The 30-year-old receiver, who caught 184 passes over six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, has been out of work since being cut by both the Eagles and Minnesota Vikings during last year's preseason. He said the Redskins were the only team to show interest because of lingering concern over the Achilles' tendon injury that caused him to miss the entire 2005 season. ``Other teams wouldn't give me a chance,'' he said |

What caught his eye was the performance of his top three draft picks. Brian Leonard rushed for a touchdown, Adam Carriker helped stop Minnesota up the middle, and the Rams beat the Vikings 13-10 Friday night in Minneapolis. Jonathan Wade contributed some tackles in the secondary. ``The top three were highlights for me personally,'' Linehan said Saturday. ` |

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Troy Williamson has spent all training camp talking about taking over as the No. 1 receiver on the Minnesota Vikings. In the first preseason game on Friday night, he started acting like one. Williamson caught three passes for 32 yards in the first quarter and was clearly the go-to receiver for young quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Even more importantly for the third-year wideout - no drops. ``I feel real confident,'' Williamson said after the 13-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams. ``Just have |

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -The important players from both teams will soon be on the sidelines, and the fans at Friday's preseason contest between the St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings will quickly remember they're watching an exhibition, not a game that counts. But with the monotony of two-a-day training camp practices finally broken, the preseason opener is plenty exciting for these players - especially the rookies. ``I'm looking forward to getting out there against another team, playing in the stadium, and h |

| hat the '06 Colts were a team with a major flaw, albeit not a fatal one. The Indianapolis run defense was historically bad, surrendering 173 ground yards per contest and 5.33 per rush. No NFL team had allowed that many yards per carry since the 1961 Minnesota Vikings gave up 5.41 yards per tote in their first year of existence. Indy was more than 27 yards per game worse than the 31st-ranked run defense of the St. Louis Rams, and allowed more than 100 rushing yards in all 16 of its regular season contests. By now |
