Goodell said it would be unfair to suspend the two, since courts have blocked the NFL from suspending Kevin and Pat Williams of the Minnesota Vikings for the same incident. Philadelphia, which has won three of its last five home openers, is trying to start 2-0 for the first time since 2004, which was also the last time the club reached the Super Bowl. The Browns, widely expected to be among the worst teams in the league in 2009, did little to dispel that notion in last week's 34-20 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Cleveland allowed 180 yards and three touchdowns to Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, while starting quarterback Brady Quinn was sacked five times in the debut for new Browns head coach Eric Mangini. | Eden Prairie, MN (MySportsbook) - Minnesota Vikings special teams player Heath Farwell is questionable for Sunday's game against Detroit. Farwell was limited in practice all week with a hamstring injury he suffered in last Sunday's 34-20 win against Cleveland. Also on the injury report was linebacker Erin Henderson, who will sit out the game with a calf injury, while tight end Jim Kleinsasser (hand) and guard Anthony Herrera (back) are listed as probable. |

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -The Detroit Lions have dodged the bullet, using an extension from the NFL to sell out their home opener against the Minnesota Vikings and avoid a TV blackout. The Lions on Thursday still had 1,700 tickets to sell by 1 p.m. Friday for the game to be televised in the Detroit, Lansing, Saginaw-Flint and Toledo, Ohio, markets. Detroit had 50 straight sellouts at Ford Field until Oct. 26, 2008, when it played Washington. The Lions failed to sell out other games later in the season en ro |

He clearly does things his way, just as his father, Buddy, did while he was defensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears and coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals. ``Got a lot of his dad in him, from that standpoint,'' Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress said. It's not the first time something like this has been done. Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher has also recorded messages for fans before big games, and former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher often urged them to mak |

DETROIT (AP) -Brett Favre is set to break the NFL record for consecutive starts. Chances are, he will have fond memories of the milestone-making game in a Minnesota Vikings uniform against perhaps his friendliest foe: the Detroit Lions. Favre has 8,524 yards passing against the lowly Lions, his highest total versus any team, and the first of 25 career victories against them was in his first playoff game in 1994. When Favre takes his first snap Sunday in Detroit, he will start for the 271st regular-season |

Cleveland's starting quarterback and top wide receiver were out of sync throughout the Browns' 34-20 season-opening loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Quinn, making his fourth NFL start, completed just one out of six passes thrown toward Edwards, whose only reception came on a deflected ball that was nearly intercepted. Otherwise, they were disconnected all day. There were overthrows, underthro |

| olating the league's rules on injury reporting last season. Over the last month of the 2008 campaign, the Jets failed to list Brett Favre on the injury report even though the quarterback had a torn biceps tendon. The Jets were fined $75,000, while Mangini and Tannenbaum were each given a $25,000 assessment. After a tumultuous season last year, the Jets fired Mangini, now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, and released Favre, who came out of retirement once again to play for the Minnesota Vikings this year. |

Heck, Mangini wouldn't even tell you what he had for lunch if he thought it would give his team an advantage, let alone reveal his Week 1 starting quarterback. That was Mangini's strategy on Sunday versus the Minnesota Vikings, except everyone at the stadium knew it would be Brady Quinn under center. The Cleveland Plain Dealer had already reported Quinn had won the competition over Derek Anderson, citing a league source. Quinn, meanwhile, had been leading the first-team o |

But, as the cliche' goes, you can only play the teams on your schedule, and all that matters is that the new starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings can place a "W" next to the top line on that slate. Favre didn't seem to do a heck of a lot in the 34-20 win at the hapless Browns, completing 14-of-21 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown and throwing mostly screens, dumps, and various other short |
