Bills' Spikes inactive against Miami NFL Football 09/17/2006

MIAMI (AP) -Buffalo linebacker Takeo Spikes was inactive for the Bills' game Sunday at the Miami Dolphins because of a pulled right hamstring.

Rookie Keith Ellison started at weakside linebacker and Angelo Crowell moved to the strongside, taking the place of Spikes - a two-time Pro Bowl player who injured his hamstring last weekend when the Bills opened their season with a 19-17 loss at New England.

Spikes was unable to practice in the week leading up to the Dolphins' game, adding to Buffalo's injury w

MIAMI (AP) -One week and one loss into the season, signs of strain are already evident on the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

The Dolphins bristle when conversations turn to how the secondary is struggling and why the running game was slowed in a loss to Pittsburgh. The Bills cringe over the perception that putting free safety Troy Vincent on injured reserve has ushered in another rebuilding phase, one that'll doom any chance of success this year.

Bucs release Boston; promote Jackson from practice squad NFL Football 09/09/2006
the season opener, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released receiver David Boston and promoted tackle Scott Jackson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Boston is attempting a comeback after missing most of the past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins because of knee injuries. The one-time Pro Bowler signed with the Bucs in May, impressed coach Jon Gruden during offseason workouts and training camp and was one of seven receivers who survived final cuts a week ago.

In one corner there's big brother, easily the best quarterback in the league and the leader of a team that gave the 1972 Miami Dolphins a scare last season. In the other, there's a quarterback who has always played in his brother's shadow and still has to prove he can live up to the hype in the Big Apple.

NEW YORK (AP) -A record 19.3 million viewers for a Thursday night opener tuned in to watch the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Miami Dolphins 28-17 in the fourth year since the NFL switched its schedule to begin Thursday nights.

Saban looks for improvement after shaky start by Dolphins NFL Football 09/08/2006

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Daunte Culpepper looked erratic, unreliable blocking and pass coverage validated preseason concerns, and coach Nick Saban made a costly mistake as his team squandered a late lead in the NFL opener.

Other than that, the Miami Dolphins are off to a good start.

Miami's 28-17 loss at Pittsburgh left plenty of room for improvement, Saban said Friday. He'll have 10 days to address the problems before Miami's home opener Sept. 17 against Buffalo.
