al of 101 tackles.

On Friday, the Patriots also announced the signing of Chris Luzar, a veteran tight end, and the release of tight end Walter Rasby, an 11-year NFL veteran.

Luzar, 27, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 6-foot-7-inch, 262-pound tight end out of Virginia played in 23 games in two seasons with the Jaguars and caught four passes for 35 yards. He was released by Jacksonville in November 2004 and signed two months later by the New York Giants.

Current black head coaches are: Romeo Crennel at Cleveland, Lovie Smith at Chicago, Marvin Lewis at Cincinnati, Herman Edwards at Kansas City, Tony Dungy at Indianapoli

NFL 2006: Will Manning ever get his ring? NFL Football 08/17/2006
sure had a familiar ring to it: A dominant regular season, clinching home-field advantage with a month to go, going into the first round with rested starters - and falling flat.

All that happened to the Broncos in 1996, with a shocking loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

``Their feeling was similar to ours,'' Manning said this summer, relaxing during a break in training camp. ``The sickness, the missed opportunity. It's as low as it can be. You work so hard to get home field these days.''

Jones still learning with Jags NFL Football 08/08/2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jacksonville Jaguars have turned to videotape to find experienced receivers to emulate.

Instead of merely watching five-time Pro Bowl receiver Jimmy Smith run routes on the practice field, they viewed footage of Marvin Harrison, Chad Johnson, Randy Moss and others Monday.

``Just some solid receivers,'' second-year wideout Matt Jones said. ``We watched the good, the bad and the ugly that they do. We don't just watch their catches. We watch everything and critique them.''

Jags sign Paul Spicer to three-year contract NFL Football 07/31/2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Defensive end Paul Spicer signed a new three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.

Terms of Spicer's new deal were not announced.

Spicer had two years remaining on his original four-year contract, but opted for a deal that extended his contract through the 2008 season.

``I've been busting my hump since I've been here to become a starter,'' Spicer said. ``Now I'm going to let my play get me paid.

``The team first had some guys to get signed like Marcus Stroud, big

Jackson started his college career at Arkansas, but transferred back to Alabama State after one season because Matt Jones, now a receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was firmly entrenched as the Razorbacks' starting quarterback.

Throwing for 7,893 yards and 67 touchdowns in three seasons with the Hornets certainly was impressive, but Alabama State barely registers as a blip on the college football radar scree

Jags sign first-round pick Lewis NFL Football 07/28/2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -First-round draft pick Marcedes Lewis signed a five-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, a day before the team opens training camp.

The tight end, chosen with the 28th overall pick, is expected to back up veteran Kyle Brady. But the Jaguars are counting on rookie's versatile skills to help replace Jimmy Smith, who abruptly retired in May and left the team with little experience at receiver.

Lewis' deal is worth about $7.5 million, with a little more than $4.8 millio
