Jags expect 3 starting defenders to play NFL Football 11/10/2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Three defensive starters returned to practice Friday for the Jacksonville Jaguars and were expected to play against the Houston Texans.

Cornerback Rashean Mathis (hamstring), defensive tackle John Henderson (hamstring) and safety Donovin Darius (knee) had missed the previous two days of practice. All three remain questionable, but returning to practice was a sign they would be able to play Sunday.

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud (ankle) was officially ruled out, and wil

is out for the season with a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. An MRI on Tuesday revealed the injury, which will require surgery. Toomer doesn't know exactly when he suffered the injury during the Giants' 14-10 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. Toomer had 32 catches for 360 yards with three touchdowns this season for the 6-2 Giants. New York battles the NFC's best team this Sunday when the 7-1 Chicago Bears visit Giants Stadium. The injuries do not stop there for New York. Micha
Giants edge Texans; lose DE Strahan NFL Football 11/07/2006
(MySportsbook) - I'm sure no one on the New York Giants will admit they were looking past the Houston Texans and toward an upcoming showdown against the Chicago Bears. It was tighter than most expected, but New York found a way to scrape by with a 14-10 victory on Sunday, and a win in the NFL is what matters most for every team, including the 6-2 Giants. The top team in the NFC East is enjoying a five-game winning streak, the longest under head coach Tom Coughlin, and has won six of its first eight games f

All told, the Jaguars ran the ball 30 times for 173 yards. The Jaguars are averaging an impressive 134.5 rushing yards per game this season, and are sixth in the NFL in that category. UP NEXT The Jaguars will play the second of three straight at home this Sunday, when they have a rematch with the Houston Texans.

They're a run-first team, which they should be because they're built that way." PACMAN SITS Two weeks ago, against the Houston Texans, Pacman Jones was possibly the best player on the field. The 2005 first-round draft pick had an interception and went 53 yards to the house for a punt-return touchdown. That was one day after he allegedly spit on a woman at a night club. Fisher susp
Giants' Strahan could be out a month NFL Football 11/06/2006
East Rutherford, NJ (MySportsbook) - New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan is expected to miss the next two to four weeks with a sprain to the Lis Franc ligament in his right foot. Strahan left the Giants' 14-10 win against the Houston Texans on Sunday in the second quarter with the injury. The Pro-Bowl end underwent an MRI and CAT scan on Monday to determine the nature of the injury and the tests revealed the sprain. He suffered no fracture or dislocation and the injury will not require surgery. S
Kubiak optimistic despite rough first half NFL Football 11/06/2006

HOUSTON (AP) -Gary Kubiak certainly didn't envision his first season as a head coach getting off to such a rocky start.

At the season's halfway mark, the Houston Texans have won just two games and carry the NFL's longest road losing streak.

But it's not all bad news as Kubiak sees improvement in his team every day. The biggest reason for optimism, he says, is the progress of his young defense.

``We're heading in the direction of having an excellent football team from a defensive standpoint,'' he said

New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin was not immediately available for comment. Giants players were off on Monday.

Strahan was injured in the second quarter of the Giants 14-10 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. He limped off the field.

``Let's not get into that,'' Strahan said of his playing status after the game. ``You gentlemen have a splendid night.''

Strahan was wearing a boot on his right foot as he walked away.

Shockey lifts Giants over Texans NFL Football 11/06/2006
East Rutherford, NJ (MySportsbook) - Jeremy Shockey's touchdown reception with 7:49 left gave the Giants the lead and New York held on to defeat the Houston Texans, 14-10, at Giants Stadium. Shockey finished with eight catches for 66 yards and Tiki Barber ran for 115 yards and his first touchdown of the season for the Giants (6-2), who have won five straight for the first time since 2000. Eli Manning ended 17-of-28 for 179 yards with a touchdown and an interception as New York avoided the classic trap game
