MIAMI (AP) -The Florida Panthers hired Peter DeBoer as their new coach Friday, giving him a multiyear deal on his 40th birthday. DeBoer - a highly touted junior coach from the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers - also was courted by Ottawa and met with the Senators this week. SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -Jacques Martin has reached an agreement to remain with the Florida Panthers as general manager through the 2011-12 season, the team said Friday. Martin was stripped of his duties as head coach last month but said he would stay on as general manager. He said then the two jobs were too much for one person.
