| two wins,'' defensive back Chris Carr said. ``If we can beat these two teams, that would show something and be a big confidence boost.'' The Raiders, in fact, would be the first team to pull off the Super Bowl sweep in consecutive weeks since the Detroit Lions in 1985, beating San Francisco 23-21 on Oct. 20 and Miami 31-21 the following week. Granted, getting the chance to play both Super Bowl teams in consecutive weeks isn't a common occurrence. In fact, it hasn't happened at all since the Chicago Bear |

The once fierce rivalry with the Green Bay Packers had become woefully lopsided, and only the Detroit Lions kept the Bears from being the division laughingstock. While some of Chicago's defensive players showed star potential, there was a revolving door at quarterback, an anemic offense and more than a few bad decisions on draft day. Nick Saban, then |

| Allen Park, MI (MySportsbook) - The Detroit Lions waived Az-Zahir Hakim Monday, marking the second time in 18 months the team has parted ways with the wide receiver. Hakim caught 17 balls for 147 yards in six games with the Lions this year. The nine-year veteran had 34 catches for 489 yards and two touchdowns last year with the Saints, who picked him up after the Lions released him in the summer of 2005. Hakim had 117 catches for 1,523 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first three- season stint with the Lion |

The list, which was announced Friday, will be reduced to 15 finalists along with Cleveland Browns guard Gene Hickerson and Detroit Lions tight end Charlie Sanders, who were selected in August by the Hall of Fame's senior selection committee. The final vote will be in Miami on Feb. 3, the day before the Super Bowl. Three to six new members will be selected. The other first-time no |

The Broncos have already made history, becoming the stingiest team to start a season since the 1934 Detroit Lions shut out their first seven opponents. Denver has allowed just two oh-by-the-way touchdowns this season, both coming in the fourth quarter after they had built 17-0 leads on New England and Cleveland. ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -The Detroit Lions strongly believe they are a good football team. That's why they're having trouble accepting their record heading into this weekend's bye. ``We're not a 1-6 team,'' center Dominic Raiola said. ``I mean, we are - that's our record - but we're better than that. We know we are.'' Other than a 34-7 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 2, the Lions have had a chance to win in the fourth quarter of every game, yet have repeatedly fallen apart down the stretch. ``We kn |

Instead of the Pittsburgh Steelers, they lately draw comparisons to the Detroit Lions. Defensive mainstays Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor and Channing Crowder all say they're embarrassed by their team's performance this season. ``Guys are making mistakes; guys are being undisciplined,'' defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday said. ``We talk |

Williams, who set Texas career receiving yardage and touchdown records, is now in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. Sweed even wears Williams' old No. 4, which initially drew snickers until Sweed started producing like Williams did on the field. ``Everyone laughed about him wearing that number,'' coach Mack Brown said. ``He's earned it now.'' | (MySportsbook) - After Sunday's 31-24 loss on the road against the New York Jets in a game that really wasn't as close as the score indicates, the bye week couldn't have come at a better time for the Detroit Lions. The Lions have several injuries they need to address. On the offensive line, for all but one game they've been without Ross Verba (hamstring) and Rex Tucker (knee) - a couple of players who are more experienced than they'd like when it comes to dealing with injury.
