Blackhawks' Eager suspended three games NHL Hockey 10/08/2008
New York, NY (MySportsbook) - Chicago Blackhawks forward Ben Eager was suspended three games without pay by the NHL on Wednesday. Eager's penalty stemmed from his actions in last Thursday's preseason game against the Dallas Stars. The 24-year-old was given a match penalty for attempting to injure Stars forward Sean Avery by swinging his stick from the bench at Avery, who was on the ice. Eager is slated to miss the Blackhawks' first three regular-season games, October 10 at the New York Rangers, October 1

The Anaheim Ducks had their hopes of repeating as Stanley Cup champions ended last spring when they fell to the Dallas Stars in the opening round of the playoffs. The Ducks' disappointing campaign had a great deal to do with the fact that two of its top players from the 2006-07 campaign, defenseman Scott Niedermayer and winger Teemu Selanne, didn't join the club until the

The youngster, Ty Wishart, is 20. GOALTENDING - Smith, a former Dallas Stars backup, was signed to a two-year contract extension during the offseason after a 13-game stint with the Lightning in 2007-08. He compiled a 2.79 goals-against average and one shutout for Tampa Bay after coming over from the Stars. In 57 career games

e team was ousted in the 2007 postseason and Sharks general manager Doug Wilson nearly did fire Ron Wilson (no relation), but opted instead to give the head coach a last chance in 2007-08. Shortly after San Jose was knocked out in Game 6 against the Dallas Stars last spring, the GM fired Wilson and after a lengthy search selected Todd McLellan as the new bench boss. McLellan was an assistant with the Detroit Red Wings over the last three years and won a Stanley Cup ring last season with the club. This will

(MySportsbook) - The Dallas Stars surprised many folks last spring when they marched to the Western Conference finals. They could get back there again this year, but the shock value would be gone. The Stars were presumed to be on the downswing simply because Mike Modano is nearing the end of his career, but Dallas has been preparing all along for that scenario, shoring up its roster with an influx of young talent. Modano will be back for his 19th season with the Minnesota/Dallas franchise, but this team

The Ducks made the playoffs with a 102-point effort in 2007-08, but were bounced out in first round of the postseason by the Dallas Stars, a rival from the Pacific Division. Maybe it was the long championship run from the year before or the fact that Niedermayer and Selanne's absence never allowed the team to jell, but one thing was clear, the Ducks had lost their championship edge. nseman Erik Johnson will be sidelined for the first three days of training camp after injuring his right knee in a non-hockey related incident. Johnson, 20, will be re-evaluated over the weekend and his status will be updated prior to Tuesday's preseason game against the Dallas Stars. The first overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Johnson enjoyed a solid rookie campaign in 2007-08, registering five goals and 33 points in 69 games for the Blues, who went 33-36-13 to finish last in the Central Division.
