Phillips breaks finger, probably out for season MLB Baseball 09/10/2008
Milwaukee, WI (MySportsbook) - Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips broke his right index finger in the same at-bat in which he delivered a game-winning single to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-4, Tuesday night. Phillips was batting with runners on first and third with two outs in the 11th inning against Seth McClung, and he attempted to bunt on the first pitch. The injury apparently took place on the attempt, but Phillips showed no signs of having broken his finger. The second baseman will fly

New York, NY (MySportsbook) - Major League Baseball suspended Cincinnati Reds minor league pitcher Scott Carroll 50 games after he tested positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension of Carroll will be effective at the start of next season. Most recently Carroll pitched for Single-A Sarasota of the Florida State League.
Brewers aim to rebound in second test with Reds MLB Baseball 09/09/2008
(MySportsbook) - The Milwaukee Brewers' September has gotten off to a great start. Losing ground on a playoff spot, the club will try to rebound in the second test of a three-game series tonight versus the Cincinnati Reds at Miller Park. The Brewers were a surprise contender last year, leading the National League Central by a game heading into August. However, a 9-18 month knocked the club out of first and ultimately the Brewers missed out on their first playoff appearance since 1982. Milwaukee got over the

Milwaukee, WI (MySportsbook) - Jeff Keppinger's two-run double in the ninth lifted the Cincinnati Reds to a come-from-behind 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the opener of a three-game set at Miller Park. Wilkin Castillo went 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored while Jay Bruce had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored for the Reds, who have won four of five. Edinson Volquez started on the mound and gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work.
Reds activate Hairston off DL MLB Baseball 09/08/2008
Milwaukee, WI (MySportsbook) - The Cincinnati Reds activated infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. from the 15-day disabled list on Monday. Cincinnati, OH (MySportsbook) - Jolbert Cabrera's game-winning RBI single capped a three-run ninth inning as the Cincinnati Reds came back to shock the Chicago Cubs, 4-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park. With the Reds trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth and Kerry Wood (4-4) on the mound for the Cubs, Edwin Encarnacion led off the frame with a single and Jay Bruce walked. Cubs aim to break out big bats again versus Reds MLB Baseball 09/07/2008
(MySportsbook) - The Cubs are hoping their offense has awoke at just the right time. After halting a season-high losing streak, Chicago plays the finale of a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds this afternoon at Great American Ball Park. Chicago was shutout twice and scored just 14 runs during its six-game losing streak. However, the club matched that run total in one game, posting a 14-9 victory on Saturday versus the Reds. Cincinnati, OH (MySportsbook) - Alfonso Soriano clubbed three homers and drove in five runs, as the Chicago Cubs snapped a six-game skid by defeating the Cincinnati Reds, 14-9, in the middle portion of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park. Soriano finished 4-for-5, scoring four times, and Derrek Lee went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI on his 33rd birthday, while Mark DeRosa belted a three-run homer. a horrid homestand despite having the best record as the host in the National League this season -- maybe the Chicago Cubs really are cursed. Chicago will try to put the brakes on a five-game slide tonight in the opener of a three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. A potent offense and outstanding pitching have carried the Cubs through most of the season and had them favorites to capture their first World Series title since 1908, but Chicago has hit the wall at an ill-advised time.
