NFL teams on notice: Character counts Headlines 04/25/2007
at draft people who have known character issues,'' said Floyd Reese, the former Titans general manager who drafted Jones last year. ``As a franchise, you're probably putting yourself in harm's way if you draft somebody with character issues.''

The Cincinnati Bengals are the best example of how draft-day risks can deflate a franchise. They had nine players arrested during a nine-month span, six of them draft picks from the last two years. Two of them - Henry and linebacker Odell Thurman - are suspended by the le

NFL DRAFT: Bengals looking for picks without problems NFL Football 04/25/2007

CINCINNATI (AP) -Medical reports won't be as important as police reports when the Cincinnati Bengals get around to making their first pick in the NFL draft.

And every other pick, as well.

After an incredible run of arrests - nine players in nine months - and a recent history of taking chances on draft picks, the Bengals can't afford to bring in any more players with problems.

They need to improve their defense. They would like to add a tight end. They absolutely must find guys whose mug shots will show u

GOLDBERG ON FOOTBALL: Troubled players slip, but not too far NFL Football 04/24/2007

The Cincinnati Bengals could use a cornerback, although after being subject to nationwide ridicule for having nine players arrested last season they almost surely will pass on UNLV's Eric Wright. For public relations reasons, if nothing else.

That doesn't necessarily apply to the other 31 NFL teams.

So Wright and Miami safety Brandon Meriweather, both of whom have had trouble in their backgrounds, could be first-round picks in Saturday's NFL draft - even though commissioner Roger Goodell's suspensions of A

Henry settles traffic charges Headlines 04/23/2007

CINCINNATI (AP) -Traffic charges against Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry were dropped Monday.

Henry, who has been arrested four times since December 2005, has been suspended for the first eight games of next season for violating the NFL's conduct policies. He spent two days in jail last January after pleading guilty to letting minors drink alcohol in a hotel room he had rented.

Henry received traffic tickets on March 25 for driving with a suspended license, failing to use his turn signal and a seat

Andrews stays with Bengals Headlines 04/23/2007

CINCINNATI (AP) -Guard Stacy Andrews signed a one-year contract Monday with the Cincinnati Bengals, who had made him one of their restricted free agents.

Andrews, a fourth-year player who started three games last season, had drawn interest from the New York Jets. The Jets would have had to give the Bengals a second-round draft pick in compensation if they signed Andrews.

A fourth-round draft pick in 2004, Andrews had made a slow transition to the NFL. He played in all 16 games last season and made his firs

Bengals add Myers; re-sign Johnson NFL Football 04/20/2007
Cincinnati, OH (MySportsbook) - The Cincinnati Bengals have signed unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Michael Myers to a two-year contract and re-signed restricted free agent linebacker Landon Johnson to a one-year deal. Myers started every game for the Denver Broncos last season, leading the team's defensive line with 80 tackles. He also recorded a pair of sacks, recovered a pair of fumbles and forced a fumble. A fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 1998 NFL Draft, Myers has appeared in 123 ga
Giants sign backup QB Wright NFL Football 04/18/2007
East Rutherford, NJ (MySportsbook) - The New York Giants have signed quarterback Anthony Wright to compete for the backup role to Eli Manning. Wright spent last season with the Cincinnati Bengals, appearing in four games completing all three of his passes for 100 yards. He has played in 28 games, string 19 times, since coming into the league with the Steelers in 1999. rnerback Tory James have agreed to a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old will compete for playing time in a deep Patriots secondary, his agent Mark Bartelstein said Wednesday. James has played 11 NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals.
