(MySportsbook) - The fans in St. Louis are baffled by their beloved Cardinals' underachievement so far. After 55 games this season the Cardinals are 28-27, just one game over .500 and sit two games behind the division leading Chicago Cubs. This is an unexpected surprise for the defending NL Central champs, who last year after 55 games posted a record of 31-24. The main difference from the 2002 season and this year is the Cardinals' play against their division opponents. Last season, St. Louis played divi

Oswalt tosses seven shutout innings in return for Houston

Chicago, IL (MySportsbook) - Roy Oswalt, activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, pitched seven shutout innings in a start for Houston. Oswalt permitted five hits and struck out eight, but didn't figure in a 1-0 loss in 16 innings to the Chicago Cubs. Oswalt had been on the DL since May 16 after straining his groin while running out a double in a May 15th victory over Pittsburgh. He earned the win in that contest, allowing just two runs on seven hits in six innings. In 10 starts this season, Oswalt is 3-4 and holds a career record of 36-16. To make room for Oswalt, the Astros optioned righthander Brandon Puffer, who posted an ERA of 4.95 in 11 games of relief, to Triple-A New Orleans. Oswalt won all four decisions versus the Cubs last season, posting a 3.48 ERA in five starts.
