| San Diego, CA (MySportsbook) - The San Diego Padres have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Jody Gerut, the club announced Friday. The terms were not disclosed. Gerut hit .296 with 14 home runs and 43 runs batted in through 100 games last season for the Padres. The 31-year-old owns a lifetime .271 average with 48 homers and 183 RBI in 420 career games with Cleveland, the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and Padres. |

| Houston, TX (MySportsbook) - Former Houston Astros reliever Dave Smith died on Wednesday from an apparent heart attack. He was 53. Smith spent most of his career (1980-90) playing for Houston and he also pitched two years for the Chicago Cubs (1991-92). A two-time All-Star, he compiled a record of 53-53 with a 2.67 ERA and 216 saves over 609 games. After his playing career, Smith served as a pitching coach for the San Diego Padres. He holds the Astros record for games pitched (586) and saves (199). |

| Clement to a minor league contract on Friday with an invitation to spring training. Clement, 34, has not pitched in the majors since 2006 because of shoulder problems. The Butler Township, Pennsylvania native signed with the Cardinals last winter, but was released in August after appearing in 16 contests over three minor league levels.
