The former Texas Longhorns tailback is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the NFL lockout ends. He has had three productive seasons in Cincinnati after an unsuccessful three-year stint with the Chicago Bears, who selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft. Benson was also arrested twice in a month in 2008 on alcohol charges that were later dropped. |

NFL Network reported Friday that issues related to player safety and legal "entanglements" -- the players still have an antitrust lawsuit open against the NFL -- are among the major topics that still remain to be handled. Time is ticking for a new CBA to be reached. The preseason is supposed to start August 7 when the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams play the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
