CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers have entrusted Ron Rivera with turning around the NFL's worst team, making the San Diego defensive coordinator the second Latino head coach in NFL history. Rivera was introduced on Tuesday. He replaces John Fox, who was let go earlier this month after Carolina went 2-14 in his ninth season. It's the first head coaching job for the 49-year-old Rivera, who is of Puerto Rican and Mexican heritage. He joins ex-Raiders and Seahawks boss Tom Flores as the only Latino |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers are holding a second interview with San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, moving him to the front of candidates to replace the fired John Fox. Team spokesman Charlie Dayton said Monday that Rivera was scheduled for the interview in Charlotte. But he says that's as far along as the process is and he hasn't been hired. The Panthers have interviewed three other defensive coordinators: Perry Fewell of the New York Giants, San Francisco's Greg Manusky |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is unhappy with the team's quarterback play and wants a major upgrade on offense, but believes that can still be accomplished with a defensive-minded head coach. Richardson told The Associated Press on Friday night the team's focus on current defensive coordinators to replace John Fox won't curtail improvement on offense. Richardson says the Panthers are placing a ``very high priority'' on bringing in a quality offensive coaching staff. Richa |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - There's been suggestions over the years the Carolina Panthers can never catch a break. Now they're out of Luck, too. The lone bright spot amid Carolina's NFL-worst 2-14 season was getting the No. 1 overall draft pick and the chance to take potential franchise quarterback Andrew Luck. But three days after a masterful performance in the Orange Bowl, Luck squashed the Panthers' dreams on Thursday in a two-paragraph statement in which he announced he's staying in school. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers plan to hold onto the No. 1 pick in the draft and are leaning toward hiring an NFL assistant coach to replace John Fox. Owner Jerry Richardson said Tuesday that Fox's inability to post consecutive winning seasons is why he's out after Carolina's miserable 2-14 season. Richardson acknowledged part of the reason he let Fox coach in the last year of his contract was he and his assistants were due a combined $11.4 million this season. Richardson said he was on boar |
