Panthers need a QB, could it be Cam Newton? Headlines 02/26/2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Holding the No. 1 overall draft pick and desperately needing help at quarterback to help fix the NFL's worst offense, the Carolina Panthers were crushed when Stanford's Andrew Luck decided to stay in school.

There's another QB who could perhaps be the top pick in April - only this time it would be a pretty big gamble: Auburn's Cam Newton.

The Panthers are at least considering taking the Heisman Trophy winner, who dazzled college football last season in leading the Tigers to the nati

Panthers use franchise tag on C Kalil NFL Football 02/22/2011
Charlotte, NC (MySportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers placed the franchise tag on Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil on Tuesday. Kalil, 25, will receive at least a one-year qualifying offer of the average of the top five salaries from the 2010 campaign at the center position or 120 percent of his salary from last year, whichever is of higher value. He is expected to get at least $10 million for the upcoming season. The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder has been an iron man the last two years, starting all 32 games and gaining Pro

The Titans announced the hiring Friday a couple hours after introducing new offensive coordinator Chris Palmer.

Skipper spent the past nine seasons coaching running back with the Carolina Panthers, including 2009 when both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart became the first duo of teammates to each rush for more than 1,000 yards. Williams finished third in the NFL with a franchise-record 1,515 yards rushing in 2008.

Va court upholds ex-NFL WR Carruth's conviction NFL Football 02/15/2011

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A federal appeals court has upheld former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Rae Carruth's conviction for plotting to kill his pregnant girlfriend.

A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that statements and written notes by Cherica Adams after she was shot didn't substantially affect the jury's verdict.

The 24-year-old Adams died weeks after she was shot in 1999.

Carruth, who played for the Panthers from 1997 to 1999, was sentenced to 18 to 24 years

Sheppard, who has 17 years of NFL coaching experience, spent the last four seasons coaching receivers for the Bengals. His resume also includes college head-coaching stints (Long Beach State and New Mexico), as well as NFL coordinator jobs with S
