Smith doesn't travel, won't play for Panthers Sunday NFL Football 09/16/2006

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -All-Pro receiver Steve Smith did not travel with the Carolina Panthers on Saturday and will miss the team's game Sunday at Minnesota.

Smith hasn't practiced or played since straining his right hamstring in practice Sept. 5.

Drew Carter and Keary Colbert are expected to split time opposite Keyshawn Johnson against the Vikings.

Smith, who led the league with 103 catches for 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, has been plagued by hamstring injuries to both legs since the start

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -Steve Smith, the league's top receiver last season, missed practice again Friday with the Carolina Panthers because of a hamstring injury and is questionable for this weekend's game at Minnesota.

Smith has been out since straining his right hamstring in practice Sept. 5. Without Smith, the Panthers failed to score a touchdown in their 20-6 season-opening loss to Atlanta.

The Panthers also practiced again without Justin Hartwig, whose groin injury leaves him questionable for Sunday's

The Carolina Panthers endured a beating last week, a 20-6 loss to Atlanta fueled by 252 yards rushing allowed to Warrick Dunn and the rest of the Falcons. This from a team that ranked fourth in the NFL last season in defense against the run.

``Just sleep on my way out there so when I wake up in the morning, I can kind of be adjusted by the time we get there,'' Bulluck said.

Titans quarterback Kerry Collins has played for the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers and spent the past two seasons in Oakland. He thinks flying east to west is easier because of the time lost going the other way.

``Going there (to San Diego), we'll gain a couple hours,'' he said.

``That helps in getting your rest. You come west

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -One is out for the season. Another is questionable with a groin injury. Still another is moving to a different position.

After just one week of the regular season, the Carolina Panthers' carefully designed offseason plan to make the offensive line younger and better has hit a snag.

It started to unravel in the second quarter of the season-opener against Atlanta last Sunday, when left tackle Travelle Wharton suffered a season-ending knee injury. In the fourth quarter of the 20-6 loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -Steve Smith sat out another practice for the Carolina Panthers on Thursday with a strained right hamstring.

The All-Pro receiver, who missed the Panthers' season-opening loss to Atlanta, has been out since Sept. 5. He remained questionable for Sunday's game at Minnesota.

Smith, who led the NFL in receiving last season, missed more than two weeks of training camp with a strained left hamstring and another week with an ingrown toenail.

WR Gardner, Chiefs agree to deal NFL Football 09/13/2006

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Chiefs and free-agent wide receiver Rod Gardner agreed Wednesday to terms of a two-year contract.

Gardner was released by Green Bay in the preseason, after playing for the Packers and the Carolina Panthers last year. He made one start in 12 games in 2005, with 13 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown.

Gardner was Washington's first-round draft pick in 2001, after a standout career at Clemson. The best of his four seasons with the Redskins came in 2002, when he had
