| Charlotte, NC (MySportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers have signed safety Charles Godfrey to a five-year contract extension. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Godfrey has been a starter since his rookie season of 2008, when the club selected him in the third round of the draft out of Iowa. He was the first rookie in team history to start all 16 games of a season at safety. In 16 games at strong safety last season, the 25-year-old Texas native led the Panthers with five interceptions and added a ca |

| (MySportsbook) - Problems at the quarterback position plagued both the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals throughout the 2010 NFL season, but each believes it's now found the solution to its most glaring area of need. The Panthers officially begin the Cam Newton era with Sunday's visit to University of Phoenix Stadium for a Week 1 clash with an Arizona squad that's provided a fresh new start for new triggerman Kevin Kolb. These two teams both took big steps backward in 2010, with the Cardinals follow |

| Charlotte, NC (MySportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers have named Cam Newton as their starting quarterback for their regular season opener against Arizona on September 11. Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft, beat out former Notre Dame star Jimmy Clausen for the starting nod and is eager to display his talents on the professional stage. | (MySportsbook) - One of the scant luxuries of finishing with the worst record in the NFL is getting an opportunity to select college football's alleged top player. A dreadful 2-14 ledger in 2010 enabled the Carolina Panthers to nab reigning Heisman Trophy Award winner Cam Newton out of Auburn, and he's now the future and face of a franchise trying to get up to speed with the rest of the league following back-to-back disappointing campaigns. Gore would like a contract comparable to the $43 million, five-year deal running back DeAngelo Williams - 20 days older than San Francisco's star - recently received from the Carolina Panthers. That includes $21 million guaranteed. Williams was sidelined for 10 games last year with a sprained right foot. Gore begins the year third on the franchise career rushing list.
