New-look Eagles travel to meet same-look Panthers NFL Football 09/13/2009
(MySportsbook) - There weren't many teams that made larger headlines this offseason than the Philadelphia Eagles. The Carolina Panthers, meanwhile, are ready to remind people just who the defending NFC South champions are. The Eagles get set to unveil a host of new weapons against a Panthers' club that won all eight of its regular-season home games a season ago when the two franchises clash Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. Philadelphia (9-6-1) didn't let a run to the NFC Championship game make it complacent

do star, who posted 105 catches for 1,394 yards and nine touchdowns as a member of the Seahawks from 2005 through 2007, has struggled to make an impact since leaving Seattle for free agency in 2008. Hackett had just 13 catches in nine games with the Carolina Panthers last season. Daniel, the former Missouri standout and an undrafted rookie free agent signed by the team during the spring, raised eyebrows with a strong preseason showing. Daniel was believed to be in contention for the third-string quarterback job
Panthers Cut Kaesviharn, 23 More; Rookie Irvin to IR NFL Football 09/05/2009
Charlotte, NC (MySportsbook) - Veteran safety Kevin Kaesviharn was among the 23 players trimmed from the Carolina Panthers roster on Saturday, as the team reached the 53-player NFL maximum. Kaesviharn, a former starter with the Cincinnati Bengals (2001-06) and New Orleans Saints (2007-08), fell victim to a numbers game at the safety position for Carolina. The product of Division II Augustana (SD), who had signed with the Panthers on Aug. 24th, posted 62 tackles and a pair of interceptions for the Saints last

In additional moves, Philadelphia placed fifth-round rookie tackle Fenuki Tupou (chest) on season-ending injured reserve, and placed quarterback Michael Vick, who is not eligible to play until Week 3, on the exempt list. Philadelphia will open its season on Sept. 13, when it travels to meet the Carolina Panthers.
Panthers name Morrison president NFL Football 09/02/2009
Charlotte, NC (MySportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers have named Danny Morrison, most recently the athletics director at Texas Christian University, team president. He will assume responsibilities, which include heading the team's business operations and Bank of America Stadium business interests, in about a month. Morrison was athletics director at Wofford College in 1995, the Panthers' inaugural season, when he oversaw a fundraising effort that allowed the school to refurbish its facilities to host Carolina'
Panthers acquire DT Leonard NFL Football 09/01/2009
Charlotte, NC (MySportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday the acquisition of defensive tackle Louis Leonard from Cleveland in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder played in 20 games over the past two seasons with the Browns, registering 33 tackles. Leonard was originally signed by San Diego in 2007 after going undrafted out of Fresno State. He later joined St. Louis and was subsequently waived by the Rams before signing with Cleveland.
Carolina Panthers 2009 Season Preview NFL Football 08/25/2009
(MySportsbook) - If any team needs a repeat of 2008, it is the Carolina Panthers. Fresh off a 12-4 campaign that saw them win the NFC South, the Panthers return 21 of their 22 starters from last year minus cornerback Ken Lucas, who was cut for salary cap reasons. And those 21 players better be as good as last season, because Carolina didn't have much cap room to add depth or upgrade at any position. Instead, the Panthers will hope that last year's core can rebound from the 33-13 defeat it suffered versus Ariz

o be the nation's elite interior defensive lineman by season's end. A major priority for Alabama and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is improving the pass rush in 2009. "As far as attacking that in the off season, Coach Sal [Sunseri] came from the Carolina Panthers where he worked with John Fox, who is one of the best in the business at rushing the passer," says Smart. "He's brought a lot of new ideas and a lot of energy and hopefully we can improve that." Move to the linebacker position and you will find anot
Panthers WR Smith hurts shoulder NFL Football 08/11/2009
Spartanburg, SC (MySportsbook) - Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith suffered a shoulder injury during a training camp practice Monday night and he could miss part of the preseason. Smith landed hard on his shoulder after getting tangled up with cornerback Chris Gamble during a one-on-one drill. Although X-rays were negative, Smith could miss extended time. He was taken from the practice field on a cart. Last season, Smith had 78 receptions for 1,421 yards and six touchdowns.
