Ovechkin, Boudreau lead Washington Capitals from worst to first NHL Hockey 02/07/2008
Thursday after practice. ``We could wake up Friday and be in 11th place.''

With teams as bunched as they are in the Eastern Conference, there could be plenty of movement in the standings every day through the end of the regular season. Indeed, the Atlanta Thrashers had a chance to pass the Capitals by beating Vancouver on Thursday night.

Still, the Capitals awoke that morning somewhere they hadn't been this late in a season since March 2003: atop their division.

``It's been huge,'' defenseman Mike Green sa

Slumping Canucks take on Thrashers NHL Hockey 02/07/2008
(MySportsbook) - The sliding Vancouver Canucks will try to get back on track when they visit the Atlanta Thrashers this evening for an interconference battle at Philips Arena. The Canucks have dropped four straight and eight of their last nine games and are just 2-7-3 since winning their first two games of the 2008 calendar year. As a result of the slide, Vancouver has fallen into fourth place in the Northwest Division, but the Canucks are still only five points behind Minnesota for the top spot in the divisi
Downie's late goal lifts Flyers past Thrashers NHL Hockey 02/06/2008
Atlanta, GA (MySportsbook) - Steve Downie's goal late in the third period was the difference, as the Philadelphia Flyers topped the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-2, at Philips Arena. Mike Richards posted a goal and one assist for the Flyers, winners in four of their last five overall as well as in their last six road contests. In addition, the Flyers improved to 12-0-1 against the Thrashers since a 4-1 loss in Atlanta on December 21, 2003, having won nine straight meetings. Their only loss in that span was a 6-5 overt
Thrashers F Kovalchuk returns NHL Hockey 02/06/2008
Atlanta, GA (MySportsbook) - Atlanta Thrashers forward Ilya Kovalchuk returned to the lineup for Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Philadelphia Flyers. Kovalchuk had missed Atlanta's last two games with a right knee injury, suffered during his club's 4-1 win over Pittsburgh last Wednesday after a knee-to-knee collision with Pens forward Jarkko Ruutu. The 24-year-old Russian notched his 39th goal of the season in the second period.
Thrashers hope to halt skid against Flyers NHL Hockey 02/05/2008
(MySportsbook) - The Atlanta Thrashers will aim for their fourth consecutive victory this evening, when they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers for a battle at Philips Arena. Atlanta comes into tonight's contest tied with Carolina for first place in the Southeast Division at 56 points apiece. The Hurricanes will also be in action tonight as they make a stop in Nashville. The Thrashers can also tie a season high for consecutive victories with another win tonight. Atlanta had posted four-game winning streaks from
Lehtonen, Thrashers blank Caps NHL Hockey 02/03/2008
Washington, DC (MySportsbook) - Kari Lehtonen made 36 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Atlanta Thrashers downed the Washington Capitals, 2-0, at Verizon Center. Todd White and Marian Hossa each scored a goal for the Thrashers, who have won their last three games. "It wasn't a very entertaining game for the fans," said Lehtonen. "But we were able to score a couple at the end. It wasn't much but we got the two points." Atlanta played its second game without star forward Ilya Kovalchuk, who sat o
Perrin lifts Thrashers over Sabres in shootout NHL Hockey 02/01/2008
Atlanta, GA (MySportsbook) - Eric Perrin scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Atlanta Thrashers came back to beat the Buffalo Sabres, 5-4, at Philips Arena. In the fourth round of the shootout, Perrin skated in on net, sold the backhander to Jocelyn Thibault, came back to the forehand and deposited the puck into the net. Thomas Vanek had the last chance for Buffalo, but he missed the net on his shot. Bobby Holik and Tobias Enstrom each had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who have won two stra
Sabres hope to continue recent tear with win over Thrashers NHL Hockey 02/01/2008
(MySportsbook) - The Buffalo Sabres will aim for their fourth consecutive victory this evening, when they visit the Atlanta Thrashers for a battle at Philips Arena. The Sabres had lost 12 of their previous 13 games before beginning this three- game winning streak. It's the longest winning stretch for Buffalo since the club rattled of six victories in a row from December 12-22. Buffalo's latest victory came Wednesday night in Florida as Ryan Miller stopped all 32 shots he faced to record his second shutout of
Thrashers F Kovalchuk out for next two games NHL Hockey 01/31/2008
Atlanta, GA (MySportsbook) - Atlanta Thrashers forward Ilya Kovalchuk will miss the next two games due to a knee injury, the team announced on Thursday. Atlanta coach Don Waddell ruled the 24-year-old star out for Friday's home game against Buffalo and Saturday's game in Washington. Kovalchuk will have an MRI performed on Thursday to determine if there is any damage. Kovalchuk injured his right knee during Atlanta's 4-1 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday after a knee-to-knee collision with Pens forward Jarkko R
Thrashers star Kovalchuk to miss at least 2 games NHL Hockey 01/31/2008

ATLANTA (AP) -Atlanta Thrashers star Ilya Kovalchuk will miss at least two games but apparently avoided serious injury to his right knee when he was hurt in Wednesday night's game against Pittsburgh.

Thrashers general manager and interim coach Don Waddell said Kovalchuk would have a ``precautionary'' MRI exam on the knee Thursday afternoon.

Waddell said he was encouraged that Kovalchuk felt better Thursday. He had no substantial swelling in the knee and was walking without a limp.

The news was good, but
