FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -Psst, did you hear the news? This one's a stunner, so brace yourself. Matt Ryan is NOT perfect. The Atlanta Falcons quarterback has shown his human side over the last three weeks, throwing seven interceptions after being picked off just 13 times in his first 20 regular-season games. Not all were his fault, of course. There were protection issues and tipped balls and receivers not always running the proper route. But it all comes back to the quarterback, the guy known as Matty |

ATLANTA (AP) -The Atlanta Falcons are eager to break free of their mostly inglorious past, show they can be a team that consistently puts up winning records and contends for the playoffs. Time to end that losing streak. For the first time in Mike Smith's two years as coach, the Falcons have lost consecutive games. Certainly, there's no need for panic - Atlanta lost a pair of road games to Dallas (5-2) and unbeaten New Orleans - but this franchise's mostly grim 43-year history raises doubts any time ther |

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -The Washington Redskins will use their fourth punter this season when they play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Hunter Smith's right groin injury is acting up again, so the Redskins plan to sign former Dallas punter Sam Paulescu (poh-LEHS-kyoo) on Thursday. Smith pulled the groin in his kicking leg during the Oct. 4 game vs. Tampa Bay. Kicker Shaun Suisham punted for the rest of that game, then Glenn Pakulak was signed to handle the next two games. Smith aggravated his injury in the |

With Cooley out a month, maybe longer, the 2008 second-round draft pick spent some 4 1/2 hours a day working with position coach Scott Wachenheim, preparing for his first game as a No. 1 tight end when the Redskins visit the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. ``I don't want to get too excited,'' Davis said. ``It might be different (Sunday).'' The Redskins don't care if he gets excited - as long as Davis figures out how to block. He can already catch. He had eight receptions, more than hi |

| dog Maryland. The Tigers had an even better chance the next season, facing Boston College at Death Valley with the winner taking the Atlantic Division. Clemson held a 17-13 lead with less than 2 minutes remaining when Matt Ryan, now a star for the Atlanta Falcons, found Rich Gunnell for a 43-yard game-winning TD. Clemson entered 2008 with a Top 10 ranking and championship expectations. However, back-to-back defeats to Maryland and Wake Forest proved too much for the Tigers and longtime coach Tommy Bowden t |

After Drew Brees was picked off three times and lost a fumble in a 46-34 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, New Orleans lost three fumbles and Brees was intercepted once in Monday night's divisional battle with the Atlanta Falcons. Even with the ugly play, the Saints were able to notch a 35-27 victory over the Falcons to match their best start in club history. | DeAngelo Hall likes Falcons, but is no Petrino fan |

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -DeAngelo Hall has plenty of positive things to say about his old team, the Atlanta Falcons. His old coach? That's another matter. The Washington Redskins cornerback made it clear Monday that he's still no fan of Bobby Petrino, the coach who quit the Falcons during the 2007 season. Hall and Petrino got in a shouting match on the sideline that year, leading to a $100,000 fine for the player and no doubt hastening the coach's abrupt departure for the University of Arkansas.
