SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Linebacker Gerald Hayes, the Arizona Cardinals' leading tackler, missed their game in San Francisco on Sunday with injured ribs. Hayes has 111 tackles while starting every game at middle linebacker. He was questionable on Arizona's injury report during the week, and Monty Beisel started in Hayes' place. Bryan Gilmore started for San Francisco in place of receiver Antonio Bryant, who began his four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.Copyright © 2005 T |

| (MySportsbook) - If any member of the San Francisco 49ers' player roster, coaching staff, or front office claims not to be paying attention to the out- of-town scoreboard on Sunday afternoon, they're lying. Bryan Gilmore, who has just seven catches in his first season as the 49ers' No. 3 receiver, will replace Bryant in the starting lineup Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. The suspension will cost Bryant nearly $300,000 in base salary under his four-year, $15 million contract. The 49ers (6-8) would win the NFC West if they win their final two games and the Seahawks lose their final two. But San Francisco, which f |

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -When the Arizona Cardinals opened a gorgeous new stadium and a much-anticipated season, the San Francisco 49ers were the perfect patsies. Nearly four months later, the Cardinals will return the visit - and the 49ers hope they'll return the favor. Rumors ran wild last September that the Cardinals requested a season-opening visit from the 49ers to give them the best possible chance to christen their new suburban Phoenix palace with a victory. Though the stories apparently weren't true, t |

This Sunday, Seattle will play host to the San Diego Chargers, they of the 12-2 record, eight straight wins, and odds-on favorite status to represent the AFC in Super Bowl XLI. The 49ers, meanwhile, will be welcoming the 4-10 Arizona Cardinals to town. If the oddsmakers are right, the Seahawks will go into the final week of the season at 8-7, and the 49ers 7-8. The following week, the Seahawks get to play Tampa Bay, currently 3-11. But that game is on the road, meaning Seattle might be fo |

The Broncos will need their defense to play at a high level if they want to make the playoffs. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Dennis Green knows he may have coached his final home game for the Arizona Cardinals. He won't talk about his job status, but all three of his Arizona teams have double-digit losses. After their 37-20 home loss to Denver on Sunday, the Cardinals (4-10) have only road games against San Francisco and San Diego remaining. Green said Monday that he expects his players to work hard through the final two weeks of this lost season. ``It doesn't matter if it's professional hockey, basketball, |
